There are three seasons in this region. There is the cool season lasting between October and February, the hot season between March and May and the wet season between June and September. The best time to visit the region is the cool season, but the stay could be enjoyable during the wet season too.
When visiting Myanmar you should have US dollars with you in small denomination. This is easy to exchange at authorized exchanges. For the dollars, you will get Foreign Exchange Certificates that can be changed into kyat, the local currency.
When you get to your destination, make sure that you drink only purified and bottled water. You can find this at the hotels, and have a bottle with you during the day when you are away from your hotel.
The best thing you could do is to travel to Myanmar when there is a festival. The region offers unique celebrations, such as Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival. This way you can visit the villages and accompany the local people in their celebration.
You don’t need any special vaccines unless you come from a region or travel through a region that requires such vaccinations. When it comes to medication, make sure that you have enough medication with you.
Although the majority of people speak the official language of Myanmar, Burmese, still there are many people who understand English, so you should have no problems with communication.
7. Mobile phones
One interesting thing about the country is that your cell phone and mobile phone will be taken from you when you arrive and you will get it back when you leave the country.
The largest hotels in the country offer electricity and power 24/7, but in case you visit more remote locations, most probably you won’t have electricity during the entire day. Nonetheless all the hotel rooms come with mosquito nets and screens.
Regarding the culture of the country, you should know that the majority of the citizens are Buddhists, but Islam, Christianity and Hinduism are also quite widespread.
10. Things you will need
There are some things that you should have in your travel bag, such as a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen for your face and for your entire body, medication, umbrella and an insect repellent. It is also a good idea to bring an antibiotic cream in case you get some scratches or cuts.
If you need glasses, make sure that you bring an extra pair and have some passport photographs, and a flashlight.
11. What to wear
Keep in mind that short skirts and shorts aren’t suitable in case you would like to visit religious sites.
